Don’t Let Anxiety Cause You to Overreact

In Health and Wellness, Uncategorized by Garcia Weight Loss May 6th, 2020

Your mental health is very important, but right now, there are many things that may affect your mood and make you anxious. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many people are experiencing a shift in their daily lives, such as working from home, online schooling and social distancing to help stop the spread of the virus.

Anxiety is your body’s natural response to stress and can cause a feeling of fear about what’s to come. There are many things that cause humans to feel anxiety, such as the first day of school, going to a job interview or work stress. Since times are tough right now, many people are faced with anxiety due to the coronavirus and what the future may hold.

Take a step back, and stop worrying about COVID-19

It’s totally okay to accept your emotions and worry, especially in a time of uncertainty. Everyone feels anxiety in their life, but letting it consume your life can cause you to overreact, which can lead to many mental health problems. Here are a few tips that can help you refrain from overreacting:

Avoid obsessing over COVID-19 media

Many of us wake up and immediately turn on the news, hoping to hear any positive coverage about COVID-19, but unfortunately that hasn’t been the case. If anything, the media is alarming the public with the numbers of cases and deaths worldwide. Although staying up to date with the latest COVID-19 news is important, try limiting your news intake to about 30 minutes a day.

Maintain your normal routine

Staying as close as possible to your normal routine can make a huge impact on your productivity, mental and physical health. Most of us are currently working from home, which means daily routines feel almost nonexistent and can lead to negative thinking. Try waking up and going to bed as you regularly would in a work week, eat meals rather than snacking all day, adapt your exercise regimen and actually get ready for the day rather than staying in pajamas. You’ll notice the difference!

Focus on yourself

Think of this time at home to truly focus on yourself and your well-being. Some of us have never experienced this much time at home, so rather than mourning the fact that you are stuck inside all day, try embracing these next few weeks and giving yourself some extra love and self care. Here are a few self-care tips when dealing with anxiety.

Please remember to practice safe social distancing during this time and remember to wash your hands regularly. As we temporarily transition to a telehealth platform, please call your local Garcia center to book your telehealth visit today.
